Mother's Day Bailout
Time & Location
May 14, 2023, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM PDT
About the Event
According to a report by the Vera Institute of Justice, nearly two-thirds of women in jail are women of color; 44% are black and 15% are Latinx. The report indicates that most incarcerated women are in jail for low-level offenses, which can include things such as loitering or simple drug possession. These bails could vary from $75 to $30,000.
Our goal is to work with the community to identify those in need of bail support and raise $10,000 to bail out mothers. We want to go further than simply bailing them out. We want to provide a day of self-care that would include things like booking them a hair or nail appointment and purchasing them a Mother’s Day outfit. We also know the importance of mental health so we want to team with professionals who can assess them and provide the necessary help. In addition to that, we want to team with local law professionals to ensure that they have legal council that has their best interest at heart.
